Strand Theater

The Strand Theater is a performing arts center and community center located in Zelienople, Pennsylvania. It has a full-time resident artistic director, as well as a production crew that works to bring the best in local and national theatrical productions to the Zelienople area. The theater has a capacity of nearly three hundred seats, and it hosts a diverse lineup of live performances and films. In addition to its theatrical offerings, it also hosts film festivals, as well as other special events and activities. The theater is located at 119 N Main St, Zelienople, PA 16063.

The Strand Theater, which opened in 1939, was dedicated to motion pictures. Joseph Sapienza, an Italian immigrant, moved his fruit market across the street into the Silvershith Shoppe, which is now a tax preparation office. For several decades, The Strad was known as the Sapiensza, and was the social center of Zelienople. The Strad's success was tied to its ability to attract a wide variety of audience members, including rural families. However, the arrival of multiplex cinemas in the suburbs forced the theater to close its doors.

In 2001, the nonprofit Strand Theater Initiative was formed. Its mission is to restore the historic theater and bring art, culture and entertainment to Zelienople. The organization purchased the Strand in Zelienople in 2002 and completed the first phase of the project in 2009. Since then, the Strand has hosted many musical concerts and performances. In recent years, the Strand has become a popular destination for family outings, as it has become a community hub for events, concerts, and art shows.

The Strand was built in 1914 and operated as a performing arts center until it closed in the early 1980s. It sat vacant for more than two decades, and the community reacted by organizing a fundraising effort. The theater was reopened in 2006, after renovations were completed. Despite the demise of the theatre, it still attracts thousands of visitors a year. The new owner of the theater plans to reopen it by autumn.

The Strand Theater has been undergoing major renovations to bring back its historic charm to the Zelienople area. The entire structure has been stripped of its seats and floor. Currently, the project is expected to be complete by autumn 2008. After this, the Strand will be ready for performances and cultural events. While restorations are underway, the community is also encouraged to attend the Strand's many events and programs. In addition to hosting these events, the group hopes to restore the old theater. A great place to also visit is the Harmony Museum.

Throughout the years, the Strand has remained a vital part of the community. Today, it is one of the city's premier cinematic and performing arts venues. It is home to some of the city's most popular events and is a popular place for local residents to enjoy a movie. It also has a rich history of showing classic movies in the area. Aside from screening classic films, the Strand offers a wide variety of cultural events. Learn more here.
